Music in Mission 2014

I wanted to give thanks for your faithful prayer support during our mission trip in Cambodia. We have witnessed the greatness of God’s work among the girls in Pleroma Home, and the school center ministry towards the children in the Battambang village. Below is the report as we ministered to the people of Cambodia during the two weeks.

We started the Cambodia mission trip on Feb 11th. It was a long 18 hours flight from San Francisco to HK, then connected to Phnom Penh of Cambodia. I was part of a team that consists of a total of 12 team members. Most of them are from San Diego, Los Angeles, except Thomas and I are from San Francisco. We then separated into 2 teams: Margie joined Team A and goes to Phnom Penh to serve at the Pleroma Home for the Girls, Thomas joined Team B and goes north to the school center in the remote village near Battambang (8 hours drive from Phnom Penh).

Pleroma Home for the Girl (PHG) – Margie

The PHG was started by the Fullness in Christ Fellowship several years ago under the leadership of the local missionary Debbie.
This is the second time I was invited to serve in the Cambodia Mission with Fullness in Christ Fellowship (FICF) at the Pleroma Home for the girls. The home is a recovery house that serves young girls ( 5-18 years old) who have either been sexually abused, abandoned and/or rescued from sex trafficking in Cambodia. There are 16 girls in the facility that we will be serving this year.

My area of involvement was to lead our team’s morning devotion and worship, lead the children worship and worship dance, and individual counseling. During the weekend, I had opportunities to serve at the local church in their outreach event teaching health and parenting workshops.

My reflection during this mission trip:

  1. Amazed of how God is at work and His love and powerful word transformed and healed the girls in the 10 short days. There were 12 girls accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and 2 girls re-confirmed their faith. Their pure heart of prayer in confessing their sin taught me how God honors the child-like faith in them.

  2. The daily teaching of the Bible stories convicted the girls to see their own sinful nature and willing to say “sorry” to their dorm mom and each other with a sincere heart.

  3. A great reminder of God’s love and grace in my life when I shared my own testimony on my parents’ abandonment. How the girls reflected with decision to be free from the bondage of hatred and learn to forgive their parents just like Jesus forgave them on the cross.

  4. In their expression of singing & dancing to the worship song “God is good all the time!” reflected their fullness in Christ because they are so free to worship God. I can see the glory of God in their joy of worship to their Heavenly Father. I love our daily worship time together!

  5. God’s inspired music can heal the broken heart & soul. In this case, a few songs from the Father to the girls. (link)

  6. Give thanks for God’s protection throughout the trip under such hot weather of 95 degree heat each day. The home does not have air con but only with a small fan. Every member got quite a lot of mosquito bites but otherwise did quite well.

  7. Experience of serving the poorest of the poor

As we returned home after the trip, we often remember how precious these children are in God’s eye. We cannot forget each one of their faces, their smiles, their hurts, and wonder how their future will be. We continue to pray that God will continue His work among these children whom we had spend a short time with and loved.

We need to bring Christian awareness to the vast mission needs in Cambodia. 96% of Cambodia population are Buddhists, with only 2% Christian including mostly Catholics. Let us join in prayer for God to give strength for the local missionaries to continue His work. Pray for God to empower them with daily strength and wisdom from above to serve the non-believers in Cambodia. Also let us pray for God to send more servants into the harvest, both in the big city of Phnom Penh and the remote villages of the rural area.

Music in Mission 2006

The "Music in Mission" is the project BCA started in 2006 to use music as a tool to serve any place outside of SF.

All around the world, the Lord is doing amazing things in the lives of those who have historically not known Him. In 2006, BCA has gathered a group of musicians to participate in the “Music in Mission” project. This project took them to Southeast Asia to conduct evangelistic concerts and training at local churches. The members of the ”Music in Mission” team are from different churches and backgrounds. All of them, however, have felt the need to respond to the invitation to participate in the Lord’s work in Southeast Asia.

The Team:

Margie Fong - Soloist, worship leader, choir director, workshop speaker, Cantonese Music Director of Sunset Baptist Church San Francisco

Sylvia (Wing) Kwan - Scientist, soloist, worship leader at Cumberland Presbyterian Chinese Church San Francisco

Dickson Chu - Soloist, choir member at San Francisco Chinese Alliance Church

Ophelia Yip - Computer Software Engineer, soloist, worship leader at Grace EFC, San Francisco

Allen Kwan - Structural Engineer, drummer, sound tech at Cumberland Presbyterian Chinese Church San Francisco
